Chesterfield Arts is pleased to announce to its key supporters that the latest addition to its public art collection is a second casting of The Awakening by J. Seward Johnson. Often referred to as "the giant," this 1980 sculpture by J. Seward Johnson has been called the nation's most popular sculpture. The piece is 70 feet in length and 17 feet high at its tallest point.

It is also - good news for kids - one piece of fine art that need not be treated reverentially. Go ahead: climb on it, jump from it, hide in its ingenious crevices and don't leave the camera in the car. It's suggested that you don't find out too much about this sight beforehand; some of its value is derived from the great visual surprise it plays on the eye at first sight.

Slated for installation this fall, the sculpture will anchor the new sculpture garden in Sachs Properties' Downtown Chesterfield development. It will be located adjacent to Central Park, at Chesterfield Parkway and Lydia Hill Road.

Save the Date! Chesterfield Arts is planning an unveiling weekend to remember on October 9th & 10th, 2009.
